Hookah Bars: A Way To Relax

You sit around a hookah, which is a small glass bowl with a long stalk topped with a burning coal and a hose which you smoke out of. This isn’t to be confused with smoking cigarettes, since this is nothing like the processed tobacco we have in American cigarettes.

Anatomy of the Hookah,There is a glass bowl at the base that is filled with water. From there, a long metal pipe stemming from the bowl leading up to a small, cup-like attachment on the top. This is then filled with flavored tobacco and topped with a small piece of tinfoil. On top if this tinfoil a burning piece of charcoal is set. There is one or many hoses coming off the stem in which you draw the smoke out of. When you do draw the smoke out of the hose the smoke runs from the cup on top, down through the water where it filters out the tar and other dirty byproducts that you find on tobacco smoke, and then comes back out through the hose. Because this is not like cigarette smoke, the smoke doesn’t suffocate you and you can draw it in almost like air. When you blow the smoke out you will taste the flavor that you have infused with your tobacco.

Flavors in a Social Setting,We all like having something that we can share with many in order to provide a comfortable environment for many people at once. Some people go to the pool hall, or out to the bar, but there are others who wander into hookah bars. When you go in you will be asked how many hoses you want and what flavor you are looking for. The extra hoses are beneficial if you are uncomfortable with sharing a mouthpiece with someone else. There is a variety of flavors, ranging from strawberry, banana, grape, lemon, apple, and any kind of combination in between. The actual substance is going to look like a glob of sticky good smelling mud, but in actuality it is tobacco soaked in flavor and molasses.

This is just a relaxing way to get out some frustration you get from work, or life. They are often playing music and are decorated in a mildly relaxing sort of way. The one that I go to shows movies in one area and offers couches, pool tables, and dominoes in the other room. The owners sit upstairs while the facility is running in case something is needed. Since the one we go to is owned by Saudi Arabians they actually smoke as well. Sometimes, they will come down and share a hookah with the people inside, offering conversation and stories of their lives.

This is just a new thing starting to pop up in all kinds of places in the United States. They will continue to thrive as a good place for college kids to gather and for business men to let off steam without the need to drink. All in all the hookah atmosphere is relaxing and is something that me and my friends look forward to every week.

History Of Hookah Bars

Hookah bars are dark, mysterious, and seem somewhat forbidden or at the very least, members-only. But what is the history of hookah bars? How did they come about? What is hookah smoking? In order to understand all this, we need to go all the way back to the western provinces of India nearly 1000 years ago.

History of Hookah Bars: What is Hookah Smoking: In order to correctly understand why we have hookah bars, we first must investigate what hookah smoking is. Hookah is a water pipe; according to Princeton’s definition, hookah is “an oriental tobacco pipe with a long flexible tube connected to a container where the smoke is cooled by passing through water;” so hookah smoking is what colloquial language would basically call smoking a “bong.” But thefirst hookahs were made from a coconut shell base; the tube where the smoke was inhaled through was designed to smoke opium, hashish, and eventually “tombeik.” Tombeik is a dark tobacco which is grown in Iran; hot coals to wet tombeik elicited a strong flavor.

After carefully preparing a clean hookah with cold water, selecting a flavorful tobacco for the bowl, lighting and adding the charcoal, the aromatic hookah smoke is drawn bubbling through the water. Cooled and softened after being filtered by the water, light, pleasant smoke infuses the senses, lingering on the air, encouraging slow meditative breathing and sweetening conversation, games of dominoes, or quiet contemplation and study.

Some techniques used to enhance the experience of hookah smoking are adding ice to the water and chilling the hoses beforehand. The lush fruit flavors of hookah smoke can be heightened by the addition of fruit juice or wine to the water in the base, and both customers and proprietors of hookah smoking lounges regularly combine tobacco flavors to come up with their own special blends.

Some tips and warnings given by veteran smokers include the following: always use the proper charcoal, specifically made for hookah smoking-regular charcoal briquettes cause carbon monoxide poisoning, and charcoal which isn’t low-smoke will overwhelm the hookah smoke; only a very small amount of hookah tobacco is needed in the bowl, since a little goes a long way; if the smoke or flavor are lacking, it’s probably because the coals aren’t hot enough-when smoking for more than half an hour or so, fresh coals will be needed.

Because hookah smoking is, and has traditionally been, a social activity, the etiquette which attends it is important. Some of the rules of etiquette are never to light cigarettes using the charcoal that heats the hookah tobacco; avoid blowing smoke in the face of another person unless they ask–so they can taste the flavor being smoked; since the point of the individual plastic mouthpiece is health and safety, don’t share them; when one person is done smoking but the hookah is still in use, setting a hose directly on the table signifies that smoker is finished and another person may use the hose; when a hookah smoking session is completed, the hoses should be wrapped around the stem; finally, don’t smoke anything but tobacco out of a hookah.

History of Hookah Bars: How did Hookah Bars Come About: Hookah was made into cigarettes for the busy men to smoke while the women would continue to smoke the hookah at home as they entertained. Hookah bars eventually began popping up when hookah appeared in Turkey some 500 years ago. Many of the well-to-do appreciated the hookah smoking experience and wanted to be able to enjoy hookah on the go but wanted more than what the hookah cigarettes alone could deliver. So hookah coffee shops began appearing where the actual hookah could be smoked and enjoyed outside of the home while still using a common water pipe.

Hookah bars became something of the Middle Eastern water cooler or break room; people would all get together and discuss global politics or local events. Despite the fact that hookah bars were quite popular, there was still an air of mystery surrounding them. In some Muslim countries they believe the Hookah to be forbidden. Hookah bars eventually migrated to the United States and Europe in the 1960’s where they remain popular to this day; some hookah bars have even begun popping up countries like Japan

The Great Bars of York

As the old saying goes, there are as many pubs in the city of York as there are days in a year. And in any given year, York’s locals are likely to make dozens of visits to a significant number of these haunts. They can’t help it. The pubs are just everywhere. The city folk proudly boast that you can’t stand anywhere in York without seeing at least one pub

It doesn’t take visitors to York very long to realize this is all true. Anywhere you look, there seems to be a bar or pub, welcoming visitors with open arms and promising a warm embrace.

York’s bars come in all styles and sizes, and there always seems to be another bar close by. The term “wall to wall bars” easily comes to mind in a place like York. Of course, abundance does have its benefits. If you happen to end up in a place you don’t enjoy, it’s easy to find another spot just a few steps away.

The beauty of York is that the pubs are plentiful but they are not run of the mill. There are great drinking places in town anywhere you go, ranging from traditional drinking spots to hip cutting-edge hangouts.

If you prefer the latter, then jot down the place called Bar 8 high on your list of nightspots to visit. It features chill-out music and is a favourite haunt of the so-called beautiful people. Just head down towards Manvers Street and look for the spot where a lot of well-dressed people are milling outside, filling the night with smoke.

If you prefer a relaxed, leisurely pace to your night or are winding down before heading home, then jazz is what you need. Located on Widcombe Parade, Ring O’ Bells offers some of the best jazz around. It’s an ideal venue for simply mingling and meeting new people. Their fine roster of wines is a welcome bonus.

On the other hand, if you’re in the mood for celebration and partying, Old Orleans will surely have your head bobbing and your adrenaline pumping. It’s crowded and loud, with alcohol flowing about generously. There’s nothing like deafening music and shouting yourself hoarse as you try to make conversation. You’ll feel really good a Old Orleans.

For a taste of something new and unique, a visit to York’s most haunted pub, The Crystal Palace, will get your heart racing. Rumour has it that the ghosts from as far back as 300 years ago, when The Crystal Palace first opened for business, continue to patronize the place to this day. Ghost-buster wannabes from all over regularly congregate on this haven on Abbey Green Street. It’s actually quite bright there and spacious, but you can’t help feeling that there’s something in the air.

There are lot of places in York that are ideal for dating or finding someone new to date. The city centre boasts of dozens of swanky places that feature a laid-back atmosphere that is conducive to romance. Places like The Pitcher & Piano and The City Screen, both located on Coney Street, provide an alluring view of the river, especially at night.

York’s hard-working corporate populace is likely to unwind after work at nightspots such as Casa, The Courtyard and The Slug & Lettuce. Meanwhile, the playboy millionaires are likely to be found at Knavershire’s racecourse, where members of The Royal Family also regularly make an appearance, particularly at The Courtyard. The Slug & Lettuce is where you will likely find York’s best barristers, doctors and accountants.

With your night winding down to an end, the perfect place for a lovers’ nightcap is Edwards on George Hudson Street, one of only a handful of York bars the operate until midnight. Unlucky bachelors who have not met anyone interesting or interested even at this late hour of the night consider Edwards their last port of call.

There are also a number of excellent bars in York that are gay-friendly, such as the Jack Tapas Bar. Located in Castlegate, this bar features the best tapas in town, which patrons regularly wash down while guzzling in-house Spanish lagers.

Meanwhile, for a wholly gay nightspot, nothing beats The Bay Horse, widely regarded as the leading gay bar in York. The place also serves great meals and a quiet ambience for lunch and dinner, and is a completely different allure at night. Alcoholic beverages are relatively cheap and flow freely throughout the night. The Bay Horse has become an informal gay landmark on Gillygate Street.

Types of Light bars

Light bars are an essential component of emergency vehicles. A light bar is essentially a bar that is mounted on top of an emergency vehicle and produces flashes of light, which send a particular message to other road users, who in turn, are expected to react accordingly. This is important because emergency vehicles are designated for responding to emergencies, and Light bars most effectively convey this message. Light bars have evolved over the years and there is newer and better technology being constantly applied to Light bars to make them even better.

Traditionally, a light bar referred literally to a metal bar that was placed on the roof of an emergency vehicle, upon which rotating lights and steady burning lamps were fitted. Today, Light bars are much more complex, brighter and produce a much larger array of light patters. Some of the common Light bars are basically elongated domes fixed to either side of a siren that contain different kind of lights within the domes themselves. These domes may contain LED lights; steady burning lights, rotating lights or strobe lights. Modern Light bars may also have a second layer of lights, which may include clear halogen lights that are used to illuminate the vehicle being stopped. These lights are also known as take down lights. There are also clear lights facing the side to illuminate alleys and other dark places, or additional red or amber lights mounted towards the rear of the vehicle for scene protection.

There has been a new trend that is widely favored particularly by the police of mounting the siren on the front bumper, ensuring the Light bars stretch across the roof and are used only for lighting. These Light bars may also be made to match the specification of particular police departments. There are those made thin and aero dynamic to reduce wind resistance mostly used by police chase cars or other emergency vehicles that require speed. Undercover police request detachable Light bars that they can be able to conceal. There are also those that are made using multiple rotating beacons that are in a V shape in order to provide additional lighting on the side of the emergency vehicles.

Flash patterns and light intensity are now configured to the specifications of the emergency department or emergency vehicle user and can be adjusted. Light bars are not necessarily only mounted outside the vehicle, as there are some made specially to be used inside the vehicle. These are however specially made to prevent them from flooding the car with light and disorienting the driver. Light bars are very important in police work and also for use on other emergency vehicles and so should be selected carefully before being installed on the vehicle. Some of the factors to consider are the type of emergency vehicle and its purpose, the intensity and flash pattern desired, as well as whether it is permanently mounted or detachable.

Home Security – Window Bars

Security bars, burglar bars and window bars are all terms used to describe a physical barrier installed over a window opening in order to discourage unauthorized entry by an unwanted party. They create a visual and a physical deterrent to home invasion. While most bars are not 100% burglar-proof, the time and effort required to compromise the barrier will likely outweigh the risk of trying to gain entry. Remember, a criminal wants to get in and get out as quickly and as quietly as possible. There are plenty of unprotected homes which provide an “easy target” for those committed to unlawfully enter.

A large percentage of home invasions and burglaries are initiated by breaking windows to gain entry. This is especially true with ground floor windows and those that are protected from a direct line of sight. Those located at the rear of a home or obstructed by vegetation are particularly at risk. Windows located on the ground floor, in the basement or the garage for security bars. Don’t forget to secure the openings of outbuildings, as well.

Security bars can either be installed on the outside or the inside of a window. Each option has its advantages. By placing burglar bars outside a window, it provides an instant visual deterrent to someone contemplating unlawful entry. In most instances that will be enough to discourage the intruder from attempting to enter. By placing the bars inside a window it’s generally more aesthetically pleasing from the exterior. Although there are a variety of decorative designs available, some owners are “put off” by the penitentiary look. Another advantage to those mounted inside the glass is that the invader would have to break the glass in order to even gain access to the window bars. They would then have to go to work getting past the bars. This would draw attention by creating unwanted noise. An intruder would much prefer an easier break-in.

It is important to note that window bars can be very dangerous to a home’s inhabitants if some key points are not observed. Imagine being trapped by fire and being unable to escape due to security bars that cannot be easily opened from the inside. The same can be said about being trapped inside, should an intruder somehow manage to gain entry. It’s imperative to have a quick release mechanism in place to allow for easy and practical escape from the inside of the home. Do not utilize a lock that requires a key or combination to disengage the unit. The release mechanism should also be simple enough for a small child or an elderly person to operate. All family members should be trained to escape a variety of situations. Additionally, make sure the security bars are compliant with all local building codes.

Substantially more information is available by consulting local home security experts or by doing further internet research.

Bob Garret writes numerous articles for Web sites on home security, personal security, security window bars and home automation.
